The global spotlight shines on Vancouver, but the glow reaches across our country. Alberta is capitalizing on opportunities to invest in our future, while celebrating excellence in sport, culture and the arts.

Education Programs
The International Olympic Committee believes that by “blending sport with culture and education, Olympism seeks to create a way of life based on the joy found in effort, the educational value of good example, and respect for universal fundamental ethical principles.”
This philosophy makes the Olympics a learning experience as much as a sport experience. Plus, worldwide interest in the Games piques interest, especially in children and youth.
Teachers fueled their students’curiosity with the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games Educator’s Guides, posted on Alberta Education’s website. Written in both of Canada’s official languages, the guides featured curriculum on:
- Culture and multiculturalism - English / French
- Sport and healthy Living - English / French
- Sustainability and social responsibility - English / French
Teachers will also find feature programs, lesson starters, a teachers’ forum, useful resources and a project showcase in English and French on Alberta Education’s website.
