Alberta's Showcase
Alberta is proud to participate in and support Canada’s Games, to celebrate our achievements and showcase our spirit, talent and diversity.
Alberta Sport Scene
Sport plays a vital role in Alberta's legacy, growth and lifestyle. It is the driver that develops pride amongst Albertans and brings individuals and communities together to promote healthy, active lifestyles.
Alberta's strength as Canada's winter sport training centre is acknowledged around the world. Over 52% of Canada's 2010 Team were born, lived or trained in Alberta.
Continued investments in our legacy facilities to meet the highest international competition standards allow Alberta to host international events. Seven World Cup events were held in Alberta during the 2009-10 pre-Olympic season and many events are expected to occur during the 2010-11 season as well.
These events create exciting opportunities for sport development in our province and allow Albertans a chance to attend international level competition closer to home. Television coverage of the World Cups during the 2009-10 season alone was seen by over 300 million viewers across the globe – showcasing our province and generating long term economic benefits.
Alberta Arts Scene
The arts are all around us, often woven through our lives unnoticed. It is part of who we are and the spirit in which we live; inspiring minds, encouraging expression, fostering creativity and contributing to the economy.
There is an undeniable power that the arts possess – the power to change and the power to move our soul. In all of its forms, arts and culture is the window through which the rest of the world sees us.
Albertans of all ages use the arts to express themselves. Whether it’s a painter resting on the banks of Lake Louise, a country singer crooning in a community hall in St. Paul or a troupe of Ukrainian Dancers performing in Vegreville, Albertans value expression and creativity.
