Alberta's Involvement in the Games

The global spotlight shines on Vancouver, but the glow reaches across our country. Alberta is capitalizing on opportunities to invest in our future, while celebrating excellence in sport, culture and the arts.

Alberta House

Alberta Plaza

Located on the corner of world famous Robson and Beatty Streets immediately west of BC Place, Alberta House and Alberta Plaza was a central location for Canadian and international guests to meet, gather, and learn about Alberta as a place to invest, work, live and visit.

An architectural expression of Alberta’s identity, function, sustainability and innovative design were combined - offering a genuine Albertan experience in the heart of Vancouver with street level programming and multi-function space.

From February 12 – 28, Alberta House hosted business-to-business activities for industry, dignitaries, athletes and media to learn more about Alberta’s economy, tourism and culture.

Alberta Plaza, in front of Alberta House, was open to the public from 11:00 am – 1:00 am as a gathering place to celebrate the Olympic Games and enjoy Alberta hospitality, cuisine and entertainment. Every evening the plaza offered free performances featuring 40 of Alberta’s established and emerging musicians and artists.

A selection of 20 artworks from the permanent art collection of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts were displayed at Alberta House. Showcasing Alberta visual artists, the artworks highlighted a diversity of media in both traditional and contemporary styles from hand blown glass to digital photography to kinetic sculpture.

Thousands of international guests, Vancouver locals and fellow Canadians were enticed to stop and experience the tastes and sounds of Alberta.

As a contributing province to 'Canada’s Games', February 17 was proclaimed Alberta Day.  Alberta kicked off the evening Victory Ceremony at BC Place with a 30-minute show featuring a diverse line-up of performers and finished off the night with Alberta's own, Paul Brandt
