Performing: Olympic Victory Ceremonies
Paul Brandt will be the featured artist at the Victory Ceremonies at BC Place on Alberta Day, February 17.
For most country music fans, the name Dr. Paul Rennee Belobersycky won’t likely ring a bell. But under his performance name, Paul Brandt, he has become an internationally renowned multi-platinum-selling singer and songwriter and the most-awarded male Canadian country artist in history.
In 1996, Paul Brandt was working as an RN at Alberta Children’s Hospital, and music was strictly a hobby. But when the talent he’d nurtured since childhood won him first prize at the Calgary Stampede’s Youth Talent Showdown, Paul found himself at a crossroads: in one direction was a career in medicine; in the other, a recording contract with Reprise Records in Nashville.
Thirteen years later, Paul has nine albums to his credit. His music, charity work and support of the Canadian military have taken him around the world. While he and his wife Elizabeth lived in Nashville for nine years, the evolution of the Internet as a way to reach fans allowed the Brandt family to return to Calgary, where their son Joseph was born in 2008.
And while Paul has shared the orbit of such music legends as Johnny Cash, he maintains a link with his first career in his work with terminally ill children. He and Elizabeth combine an outdoor life at their home in the foothills of the Rockies with community involvement through Alberta Children’s Hospital, Samaritan's Purse, The Bridgeworks Foundation, and Calgary’s Centre Street Church.
The Alberta Day Victory Ceremony will begin with a 30-minute show featuring a diverse line-up of Alberta performers followed by the presentation of Olympic medals to the day’s event winners. The ceremony will conclude with a 50-minute set by Paul Brandt. All Victory Ceremonies at BC Place are ticketed events, with tickets priced from $22.00.
