As part of Family Violence Prevention Month, the government is reinforcing its commitment to work with community partners to support individuals and families affected by family violence.
Human Services is providing Punjabi Community Health Services with a Family and Safety Program grant for $150,000 for its South Asian Community Outreach Program. This unique program will help the South Asian community in Calgary get access to culturally appropriate services and supports to address family violence.
“Family violence devastates people in all communities and all socio-economic classes. We all have responsibility to be part of the solution and end these needless crimes. I am proud that our government is partnering with Punjabi Community Health Services in their important work of preventing family violence and supporting survivors in Calgary’s South Asian Community.”
“This funding will help Punjabi Community Health Services reinforce the Sahara Family Support Program, our core counselling program, so we can respond to the number of families requiring our services, and allow us to bridge the gap between the South Asian community and mainstream agencies. 2016 is the 30th anniversary of Family Violence Prevention Month, which originated in Hinton, Alberta. This year’s theme is “Reach Out. Speak Out.”
