“This year, the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples calls for collective attention to education. Young Indigenous people are the fastest-growing population in Alberta. They deserve opportunities that reflect their lived experiences, cultures and values, and that set them up for success in the future.

“Our government has made significant strides in the past six months to strengthen education for Indigenous students in Alberta. We will continue to work with leaders and communities so all Indigenous children in Alberta are prepared for success in life and for careers in a diversified economy.”

- Richard Feehan, Minister of Indigenous Relations

“All children in Alberta, no matter where they live, deserve a quality education. We are committed to increasing graduation rates and helping to close the education gap that exists between Indigenous peoples and the general population.

“The Kee Tas Kee Now education authority will allow students to continue to receive education in a culturally relevant environment in their communities, while also benefiting from improved resources and supports similar to all other students in Alberta. Our recent Letter of Intent with the Maskwacis Education Steering Committee will facilitate collaboration with the Maskwacis bands on meeting education needs that are meaningful to these communities and their students.”

- David Eggen, Minister of Education
