This release was issued under a previous government.

“Too often, people who are coping with a mental illness suffer in silence. As a national conversation flourishes around mental health today, I encourage everyone to talk, text, tweet or share so that we can help reduce the stigma around mental illness.

“One in five Albertans will experience a mental illness at some point in their lives, and two out of three people with mental health conditions won’t share what they’re going through because they fear being labelled or rejected.

“Strengthening our services and supports for Albertans in the areas of mental health and addictions is a priority for our government. That’s why we established the Mental Health Review shortly after taking office. I have received the report, and am carefully reviewing the recommendations before sharing the report publicly in the coming weeks.

“Our goal is for Albertans with addiction and mental health needs to feel supported at every stage of their journey, and for all Albertans to have opportunities to enjoy positive mental health and wellness.

“Talking is an important step in building greater awareness, acceptance and understanding. I encourage all Albertans to add their voices to the conversation, not only today but throughout the year.”
