Sole-sourced service contracts are now posted online at alberta.ca and will be updated on a quarterly basis. The first list will include contracts signed between April 1 and June 30 of this year.
This is part of work being done to improve procurement accountability across the Government of Alberta. A recent Treasury Board Directive mandated that all sole-source service contracts worth more than $10,000 but less than $75,000 be disclosed publicly on a quarterly basis. The new database goes beyond that directive by including contracts worth more than the $75,000 upper limit.
“Our government is committed to accountable, transparent and fair contracting processes. Sole-sourcing should not stay behind closed doors, because Albertans deserve to know where those dollars are going and how they are being spent.”
In addition to requiring public disclosure, government has also improved procurement practices and established contract review committees within each department.
This list contains 1,024 contracts worth approximately $323 million. It is sorted between regular government business contracts and contracts for direct social supports to Albertans through Alberta Human Services.
The list has been posted according to open data principles and is presented in a uniform, user-friendly format. Most fields within the list have sort and filter capability. As well, the entire database can be downloaded into a spreadsheet, accommodating further analysis.
