“Alberta knows success at home often means success for our partners across Canada. With our goal to enhance the commercialization of research, paired with a shared focus on innovation, our two provinces can better compete globally and build a stronger Canada”

Dave Hancock, Premier and Minister of Alberta Innovation and Advanced Education

“Our government recognizes that Ontario’s capacity to compete in the global knowledge-based economy and to create the jobs of tomorrow depends on our research strengths. That is why we welcome this strategic partnership with Alberta. Connecting industry and research leaders in Ontario and Alberta will help both provinces become more innovative, productive and competitive.”

Reza Moridi, Ontario Minister of Research and Innovation

Alberta – Ontario Innovation Program:

  • The Alberta government, through Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures, will provide up to $2 million. Up to $2 million in matching funding will be provided by industry.
  • Ontario’s Ministry of Research and Innovations will provide up to $2 million of funding to the Ontario Centres of Excellence to be matched by up to $2 million provided by industry.

In Alberta, the program is managed by Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures and in Ontario by the Ontario Centres of Excellence. Alberta Innovates – Technology Futures and the Ontario Centres of Excellence will support approved projects in their respective provinces to be performed in collaboration with projects funded in the other province.

The aim of the two-year Alberta-Ontario Innovation Program is to strengthen global competitiveness by leveraging academic expertise to address industrial challenges such as:

  • waste management;
  • energy storage;
  • converting CO2 into marketable products; and,
  • packaging/adhesive materials for bandages.

Under the Building Alberta Plan, our government is investing in families and communities, living within our means, and opening new markets for Alberta’s resources to ensure we’re able to fund the services Albertans told us matter most to them. We will continue to deliver the responsible change Albertans voted for.
