“It’s a great honour to be Alberta’s new chief medical examiner. We have an extremely dedicated and talented team of professionals at the OCME and I’m looking forward to continuing to lead them as we work hard to provide Albertans with outstanding services.”

Dr. Elizabeth Brooks-Lim, Chief Medical Examiner

The OCME provides an essential service in the criminal justice system. When a death occurs suddenly or cannot be explained, the OCME conducts an investigation, often acting as the first point of contact for the deceased’s grieving relatives and friends and the deceased’s physician.

The chief medical examiner is appointed under Alberta’s Fatality Inquiries Act by the Lieutenant Governor in Council upon recommendation of the Minister of Justice and Solicitor General.

The appointment takes effect on Feb. 1, 2017.
