"Today we mark the official end of the First World War and remember the ultimate sacrifice of civilians and military personnel who have died in armed conflicts in and since that war.

“Thousands of Albertans and Canadians went to battle so we could all enjoy freedom. Many continue to serve in peacekeeping roles across the globe. They leave their homes and their families to fight for what we all believe in, knowing too well that they may not make it home. This is truly the greatest sacrifice anyone can make for their country. Today, we honour them — both the dead and the living. To all veterans, thank you.

“Many thousands of Indigenous Canadian veterans served in the First and Second World Wars and the Korean War. Their service continues today in the Armed Forces, both here at home and overseas.

“It has been said that the purpose of all war is peace. We enjoy peace today because of the strong and courageous — traits that know no gender or skin colour.

“Across our wonderful province there will be ceremonies showing our gratitude and appreciation to the men and women who served, and who continue to serve, so that we may live freely. May the brief silence at the 11th hour today ring loudly in our hearts every day.”
