This release was issued under a previous government.

The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement branch helps keep Alberta roads safe by ensuring commercial vehicles comply with safety laws and standards. The re-accreditation process is conducted by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). Alberta’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch has met the high standards to receive the CALEA accreditation since 2001.

A team of assessors from CALEA will examine all aspects of the branch’s policies and procedures, management, operations, and support services to determine whether they meet CALEA’s high standards. This is a proactive way for the branch to ensure they are well-managed and well-prepared to continue to provide Albertans with quality service.

As part of the voluntary re-accreditation process, Albertans are invited to comment on Commercial Vehicle Enforcement’s ability to help maintain safety on our roads. Comments may be provided to the assessment team through a public information session, telephone session, mail, or online:

  • The telephone session will be conducted on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Assessors can be reached by calling 403-340-5081.
  • The Public Information Session will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, beginning at 6 p.m. The session will be conducted at the Red Deer Provincial Building, Room 111, 4920 – 51 Street, Red Deer. Guests are asked to use the south entrance.
  • Written comments may be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), at 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, U.S.A. 20155, or at www.calea.org.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards. A copy of the standards is available by contacting Commercial Vehicle Enforcement at 403-340-5225.
