This release was issued under a previous government.

Construction is expected to start this summer to replace units built in 1958. There will be 46 new units and the kitchen and core services area will undergo a major renovation. Once completed, the lodge will have 120 modern units that feature larger rooms, full in-suite washrooms and modern fire-suppression and safety systems.

Alberta Jobs Plan in Action

“Seniors lodges are a vital part of rural Alberta and we’re making significant investments to modernize and replace these facilities. This allows seniors to age in the community where they’ve lived their whole lives.”

Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Seniors and Housing

The Government of Alberta will invest $10.3 million for the project, while the Lakeland Lodge and Housing Foundation will provide the balance. The Alberta government owns the lodge and the foundation operates it.

Redeveloping Bonnylodge

This project is the third phase of redevelopment for the Bonnylodge property and is expected to be complete by the spring of 2018. The other two phases included a 22 lodge-unit addition and 60 new self-contained apartments. The project gives Bonnyville and area seniors the options of independent apartment living or assisted living in the lodge on the same site.

“The board of management of Lakeland Lodge and Housing extend to Lori Sigurdson and her government a most sincere and heartfelt thanks for her support of Phase 3 of the Bonnylodge project. This final phase of the lodge redevelopment will accommodate seniors with all the necessities required to age in place. The citizens of the area applaud the minister and her team for recognizing our housing needs and holding true to the promise of placing seniors high on her list of priorities.”

Ray Prevost, Chair of the Lakeland Lodge and Housing Foundation

Lodge Living

Lodges provide bed and sitting rooms, meals, housekeeping, other services and recreational opportunities for low and moderate-income seniors who are functionally independent. Lodges are not medical facilities.
