Government took steps to heighten enforcement on public lands this year through a co-ordinated effort by multiple enforcement agencies and use of the Report A Poacher line. Enforcing the safe and responsible use of public lands will continue to be a priority this summer, including during this July long weekend

“We will continue our public lands enforcement efforts to ensure education, awareness and compliance with respect to responsible public lands use now and into the future.”

Shannon Phillips, Minister of Environment and Parks

“Public lands are a wonderful resource that many Albertans enjoy, and I thank the enforcement personnel for their efforts to promote the safe use of those lands.”

Kathleen Ganley, Minister of Justice and Solicitor General

During the May long weekend alone, Fish and Wildlife Officers, Conservation Officers and Seasonal Park Rangers engaged almost 7,000 Albertans on the appropriate use of public lands. Since May 1, these officers have issued 26 charges and 105 written warnings under the Public Lands Act.
